Janet is a former chairman of the Nuclear Liabilities Financing Assurance Board and the Nuclear Liabilities Fund. Previous non-executive directorships include Cable & Wireless plc, Midlands Electricity plc, WH Smith plc, Stagecoach plc, Scottish Life plc, BPB plc, Murray International plc, the Scottish American Investment Trust, Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc and Albion Enterprise VCT. She is a former member of the Central Policy Review Staff in the Cabinet Office, Special Adviser to the Director-General of the BBC and Advisor to the Board of the Granada Group. In these roles, Janet led major strategic reviews. In addition, she has many years of experience as a trustee of charitable trusts and other organisations, including the British Council, the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation and the National Library of Scotland.

Alexandra has 19 years of experience as a non-executive director of UK listed companies. She currently sits on the board of three investment trusts: JP Morgan China Growth & Income plc (Chairman), Henderson Smaller Companies plc (Audit Committee Chair) and Murray International plc (Senior Independent Director). Previous non-executive directorships include Schroder Asian Total Return plc, RENN Universal Growth plc, Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc and Empiric Student Property plc.
Prior to this, she was based in Hong Kong where she spent 17 years as an investment analyst with SG Warburg (Director, Hong Kong and China Equity Research, JP Morgan (Deputy Head of Asian Equity Research) and Credit Suisse (Head of Greater China Equity Research). During this period, she advised listed company boards, government-controlled organisations and international investors on a wide range of issues. At JP Morgan in Hong Kong, she spent two years seconded to Morgan Capital, its private equity division headquartered in New York.
